Clarksburg – The Fairmont Federal Credit Union was honored June 10 by the Chamber of Commerce as the New Business of the Year. This honor is bestowed upon a company that has been in the county less than three years and displays outstanding corporate citizenship, community involvement and potential for future growth.
Shelly Fluharty, vice president of marketing, said they have been thrilled with how the credit union has been received by the community and has been able to plant roots here.
“We also have planned to open our second office in Shinnston at the Shop ‘n Save. We want to continue growing in that area,” Fluharty said.
A graduate of the Chamber’s Leadership Harrison program, Fluharty called it a wonderful opportunity.
“We’ve done the Small Business Expo and try to support as many of the Chamber events as we possibly can,” she said.
Fairmont Federal Credit Union is also a sponsor of the Freida J. Riley event, the American Heart Association and the West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival. They are embarking on a Partner in Education agreement with Big Elm Elementary School in Shinnston.
“As part of the credit union movement, community involvement is very much part of our philosophy. We were involved in as many as 70 events in Marion County,” Fluharty said. “Our membership is local. Everyone who does business with us is local, and that’s why it is important to give back to the community we serve.”
Scott Duarte, director of hospitality for Genesis Partners and general manager of Bridgeport Conference Center, called the Fairmont Federal Credit Union a delight to work with.
“They do a great job. They help fill an integral spot in the community,” Duarte said of the business, located in the North Land Bay of Charles Pointe.
Duarte noted the great customer service, attentiveness and hospitality in the industry.
“It fills another layer it takes to complete a community, and we are glad to have them a part of our team.”
