Members of the community are invited to attend a reception Dec. 9 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Bridgeport Public Library. The reception will honor the facility for its national No. 2 ranking in the annual Hennen’s American public Library Rating (HAPLR).
According to children’s librarian Crystal Hamrick, the Bridgeport Public Library once again made the list repeating its number 2 spot for libraries serving 5,000-9,999. The Bridgeport Library is one of only nine libraries that have remained on the list all eight times.
“Not only are we proud to have made the list eight times, we are especially proud to be one of nine libraries to remain on the list all eight times,” said Library Director Sharon Saye.
During the event the Bridgeport High School Jazz Band will perform at 6:30 p.m.
Hamrick said the reception is also a great way to show off the high school’s jazz band.
“(The jazz band) was already scheduled when we decided to hold the reception that night,” Hamrick said. “It’s a great way to toot the horn of our local high school band.”
During the reception refreshments will be provided courtesy of the GFWC Woman’s Club of Bridgeport, The Friends of the Library and the Bridgeport Library staff. The public is invited to join in the celebration as well.
According to Hamrick the ranking is a courtesy to everyone involved to help make the library successful – staff, volunteers and the public.
